This vintage abstract Murano Glass sculpture in the shape of a spiral is a modernist Venetian art glass masterpiece crafted in the world-famous Seguso Vetri D'Arte Murano Glass studio in Venice, Italy. Seguso is one of the most prominent and oldest names in Murano's rich glass-making history, which was added to Venetian Gold Book of families back in 1605. Its most famous artist Archimede Seguso was the principal force behind Seguso Vetri D'Arte company established in 1937. During his career, Archimede Seguso collaborated with prominent artists including Flavio Poli and Vittorio Zecchin, forming his own very unique artistic style. His artworks are featured in museums and exhibitions globally and have been showcased many times at Venice Biennale to great acclaim.

This Murano Glass Sculpture features a deceptively simple form that is a play on themes of a broken circle, a spiral, and infinity. It features a beautiful tender color that changes slightly under different lighting conditions. Through the contours, shape, and the play of light the artist created a sculpture that is both contemplational, simple, and symbolic, and will look stunning in any contemporary interior.

This vintage Murano Glass Spiral is a rare one-of-a-kind piece even among Seguso Vetri D'Arte works, created between 1940 and 1960.

Like other art forms, Murano Glass experienced a renaissance in the middle of the 20th century as traditionally-trained glass artisans started to explore the contemporary art scene and integrate the prevailing art movements into their works, turning Murano Glass from a craft to a true art form, widely sought after by collectors and fans worldwide.

Workmanship

Larger Murano Glass figures and sculptures are typically made in the ancient factories on Murano island, where there is enough space to turn, twist, and blow the glass, move it into and out of the large furnaces, and cool it down properly. Making the glass mixture with the right color intensity and pattern is only a part of the job. The biggest challenge is shaping the glass just perfectly while keeping it in the correct state in between the bench and the furnace. This requires special skills rarely found outside of Murano Glass artist and artisan community. These Murano Glass sculptures of lovers, abstract art, and animals crafted in well-known Murano factories are top-quality art glass pieces sought after by interior decor specialists and collectors alike.
