Workmanship

Murano Glass masters create patterns on glass using only glass-making methods and no paints. This is especially fascinating when they create striped designs or ribbon-like patterns on glasses, tumblers, plates, bowls, and figurines, resulting in a unique artistic look that is the long-time specialty of Murano Glass artisans. To create that look, the masters heat up the glass mass on a special rod, twist, turn and shape it into the piece they need, then use a helper to come and carefully pour a thin line of stretched liquid glass on top of the object in a specific pattern, which after careful and methodical turning results in evenly distributed stripes or other geometrical patterns.
