Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists in history, used many different styles throughout his creative period. The Murano Glass artisans of Venice have drawn upon those incredible styles, particularly the more abstract, to create uniquely beautiful pieces. This Murano Glass pendant features a face done in that abstract style, layering multiple styles and colors of glass to create something worthy of any serious art collection. However this is art that can be worn, with a clear glass loop on the back big enough to be strung onto any cord or chain you like. This Murano pendant is a great gift for an art lover or a fan of Italian glass craftsmanship.
  • Measurements: This pendant measures about 2-1/2 inches in diameter.
  • The pendant comes with an attractive velvet pouch and the certificate of authenticity.
  • This pendant was crafted by hand under an open flame in a traditional Murano Glass workshop on Murano island in Venice
  • Because this Murano pendant is a unique work of art made by hand, slight variations of colors and patterns are possible.

Workmanship

Lampworking technique of glass-making, which dates back to ancient Egypt, was revived by Murano glass artisans around the fourteenth century. This technique is based on heating up a blob of glass under a small flame from a lamp or a torch until it reaches malleable state, then blowing and using simple tools or just hands to create various forms and designs. Lampworking allows the artisan's creativity to blossom, as copper sparkles, various minerals, and pieces of glass cane are fused together in this process to create rich colors and imaginative patterns that are always unique. Murano Glass masters often use lampworking method to create small jewelry, such as pendants, earrings, or rings, as well as keychains, barrettes, pillboxes, and figurines.
