Make your day a little brighter and more meaningful with this elegant finely crafted Murano Glass Star Of David Pendant. Ancient Millefiori glass-making technique has been carefully preserved on Murano Island in Venice by generations of venerable Murano Glass master artisans, who make artworks in glass by fusing together tiny pieces of colorful glass mosaics under a small flame in a complex centuries-old process.

Magen David (The Star of David) is a well-known Jewish symbol, which draws attention to the Jewish heritage and tradition. Made of Murano Glass in Venice, Italy, this pendant has a special significance for Jewish people around the world, as Venice was once a very tolerant city by the standards of its day, that housed a very large and vibrant Jewish community in its centuries-old Jewish ghetto. The ghetto still draws large tourist crowds and continues to be the center of Jewish life, albeit on a much smaller scale. This pendant is a beautiful and meaningful piece that works great for every day or for special occasions.

  • Measurements: The pendant measures 1 inch across and 1-1/2 inches in height.
  • The Star Of David Murano Glass pendant comes with an attractive velvet pouch and a certificate of authenticity.
  • Because each item is a unique work of art made by hand, and due to the specific Millefiori glass-making process, no two pendants are exactly alike. There are slight variations of colors and patterns, which are not a defect but a defining feature of authentic Murano Glass.

Workmanship

The technique of fusing together small colored fragments of glass dates all the way back to Ancient Egypt and Rome. After the fall of Rome, having been lost for centuries, this intricate technique was reinvented by Murano glass masters in the 15th century, and given new life and worldwide fame. While this technique is called "Murrine" on Murano island, outside of Venice it was dubbed "Millefiori", or "a thousand flowers" for its resemblance to a blossoming meadow.
A Millefiori design starts with the rods of different colors, each made by stretching a blob of glass into a cane. These canes are then cut into small segments, and the segments are carefully arranged by hand into a pattern that fits within a desired shape. Finally, the resulting arrangement is put into a special furnace where the tiny glass pieces are carefully fused together in high heat, and then gradually cooled off. This is how Murano masters create their famous Millefiori pendants, earrings, cufflinks, pill boxes, paperweights and many other beautiful and unique Millefiori jewelry pieces that are instantly recognized and valued for their artistic appeal and fine craftsmanship. Enjoy your Murano Glass jewelry creation, knowing that it was carefully handmade by talented Murano Glass artisans in Venice, Italy.
