The glass artisans of Venice are capable of handcrafting pieces of exquisite detail, especially when it comes to crafting anything in the shape of an animal. They are able, using the ancient traditions of Murano Glass, to make works of art that are unmistakable as to what they represent. One such example is this highly detailed Murano elephant pendant. Every detail was painstakingly drawn out of the glass, with every feature of this regal animal present. The flapping ears, curved trunk, prominent tusks, and even the wrinkles in its skin are on display in this smooth ivory-colored glass pendant. The glass loop on top is clear so as not to detract from the elephant's appearance, and is large enough to fit nearly any cord.
  • Measurements: This pendant measures 2 inches in height and 2 inches in width and is about 1 inch thick.
  • The pendant comes with an attractive velvet pouch and the certificate of authenticity.
  • This pendant was crafted by hand under an open flame in a traditional Murano Glass workshop on Murano island in Venice
  • Because this Murano pendant is a unique work of art made by hand, slight variations of colors and patterns are possible.

Lampworking technique of glass-making, which dates back to ancient Egypt, was revived by Murano glass artisans around the fourteenth century. This technique is based on heating up a blob of glass under a small flame from a lamp or a torch until it reaches malleable state, then blowing and using simple tools or just hands to create various forms and designs. Lampworking allows the artisan's creativity to blossom, as copper sparkles, various minerals, and pieces of glass cane are fused together in this process to create rich colors and imaginative patterns that are always unique. Murano Glass masters often use lampworking method to create small jewelry, such as pendants, earrings, or rings, as well as keychains, barrettes, pillboxes, and figurines.
