High on style and the wow factor, this Murano round pendant necklace is your go-to choice for a casual day or a dressy evening alike, be it with a little black dress or a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. This necklace made of round Millefiori pendant hung on a simple black cord has a contemporary elegant look thanks to the rare matte finish and an artsy combination of classic black and multicolor mosaic pattern. This pattern, which is unique in every pendant, is achieved with Millefiori technique, a coveted style known as far back as ancient Egypt. The round Millefiori pendant was handcrafted in a small workshop on Murano island following centuries of glass-making tradition, established as Murano Glass masters attempted to recover the long-lost techniques from antiquity. This unique piece is a great gift for a stylish woman, who appreciates artistic vision and fusion of the old and new and enjoys the cultural and artistic association with Venice.
  • Measurements: The cord on this pendant is 26 inches in length and the round pendant measures 2 inches in diameter and is 3/16 inch thick.
  • The necklace comes with an attractive velvet pouch and a certificate of authenticity.
  • Because each Murano Glass jewelry piece is a unique work of art made by hand, and due to the specifics of Millefiori technique, the patterns can never be repeated exactly and slight variations of colors are possible. The look of the pendant, however, will be very similar to that shown on the photos.

Workmanship

The technique of fusing together small colored fragments of glass dates all the way back to Ancient Egypt and Rome. After the fall of Rome, having been lost for centuries, this intricate technique was reinvented by Murano glass masters in the 15th century, and given new life and worldwide fame. While this technique is called "Murrine" on Murano island, outside of Venice it was dubbed "Millefiori", or "a thousand flowers" for its resemblance to a blossoming meadow.
A Millefiori design starts with the rods of different colors, each made by stretching a blob of glass into a cane. These canes are then cut into small segments, and the segments are carefully arranged by hand into a pattern that fits within a desired shape. Finally, the resulting arrangement is put into a special furnace where the tiny glass pieces are carefully fused together in high heat, and then gradually cooled off. This is how Murano masters create their famous Millefiori pendants, earrings, cufflinks, pill boxes, paperweights and many other beautiful and unique Millefiori jewelry pieces that are instantly recognized and valued for their artistic appeal and fine craftsmanship. Enjoy your Murano Glass jewelry creation, knowing that it was carefully handmade by talented Murano Glass artisans in Venice, Italy.
