Bright and distinctive, this colorful Murano Glass Millefiori Pendant is hand-made from an assortment of tiny glass mosaic pieces, using a complex process which has been known in ancient times and then re-discovered and perfected by skillful glass artisans in Venice. This method called Millefiori (a thousand flowers) is the most recognizable of all Murano Glass techniques, one that instantly brings back visions of Italy and Venice. This fine Millefiori pendant adds Italian style and Venetian elegance to every day and is a perfect jewelry accessory to wear on special occasions or give as a gift. It will look great suspended from a gold or gold-plated chain.
  • Measurements: The pendant measures 7/8 inches in diameter.
  • The frame is made of .925 sterling silver, which is 24 kt gold-plated for beauty and durability.
  • This Millefiori pendant comes with an attractive velvet pouch and the certificate of authenticity.
  • Note: This Millefiori pendant is crafted using a complex glass-making technique based on creating designs from multiple tiny glass beads entirely by hand. For this reason the exact placement and color of each tiny bead cannot be repeated exactly, and each pendant will feature slightly different colors. However, the overall look will be very similar to what you see on the product photos.

Ordered this pendant with both the gold and silover frame. I'm so pleased with both. I am thinking of going back and ordering this in the larger version as well. It is well made and very beautiful with a wonderful array of colors that compliment whatever I am wearing. It is a wonderful reminder of my recent trip to Venice.

Workmanship

The technique of fusing together small colored fragments of glass dates all the way back to Ancient Egypt and Rome. After the fall of Rome, having been lost for centuries, this intricate technique was reinvented by Murano glass masters in the 15th century, and given new life and worldwide fame. While this technique is called "Murrine" on Murano island, outside of Venice it was dubbed "Millefiori", or "a thousand flowers" for its resemblance to a blossoming meadow.
A Millefiori design starts with the rods of different colors, each made by stretching a blob of glass into a cane. These canes are then cut into small segments, and the segments are carefully arranged by hand into a pattern that fits within a desired shape. Finally, the resulting arrangement is put into a special furnace where the tiny glass pieces are carefully fused together in high heat, and then gradually cooled off. This is how Murano masters create their famous Millefiori pendants, earrings, cufflinks, pill boxes, paperweights and many other beautiful and unique Millefiori jewelry pieces that are instantly recognized and valued for their artistic appeal and fine craftsmanship. Enjoy your Murano Glass jewelry creation, knowing that it was carefully handmade by talented Murano Glass artisans in Venice, Italy.
