Rich colors and trendy design of this Millefiori Jewelry Set make it a perfect choice for a special occasion and everyday alike. Famous Murano Glass artisans handcrafted this pendant and earrings set according to the centuries-old Millefiori glass-making technique that takes skill, talent, and passion. This fine decorative technique comes from ancient Egypt, where it was used to craft the most exclusive glassware for the pharaohs. Very thin glass rods with patterns inside are cut into tiny round mosaic pieces, which are then set by hand into unique designs and fused together in the furnace. Wear this Millefiori jewelry set full of rich Murano colors and boasting unique mosaic design, and you will turn heads wherever you go.
Measurements: The Murano Glass Millefiori pendant has a rhombus slightly convex shape with a side of 1-1/4 inch. The pendant comes on a black silk cord. The Murano earrings in this set are square studs measuring 3/8 inch on each side. The set comes in an attractive gift box and is accompanied by the certificate of authenticity.
This item is a unique hand-made work of art created using special glass making technique, which results in unique random patterns, such that no two items are exactly the same. In addition, some variations of colors and patterns are possible. These are not defects but the very features by which one can recognize authentic Murano Glass.
The technique of fusing together small colored fragments of glass dates all the way back to Ancient Egypt and Rome. After the fall of Rome, having been lost for centuries, this intricate technique was reinvented by Murano glass masters in the 15th century, and given new life and worldwide fame. While this technique is called "Murrine" on Murano island, outside of Venice it was dubbed "Millefiori", or "a thousand flowers" for its resemblance to a blossoming meadow.
A Millefiori design starts with the rods of different colors, each made by stretching a blob of glass into a cane. These canes are then cut into small segments, and the segments are carefully arranged by hand into a pattern that fits within a desired shape. Finally, the resulting arrangement is put into a special furnace where the tiny glass pieces are carefully fused together in high heat, and then gradually cooled off. This is how Murano masters create their famous Millefiori pendants, earrings, cufflinks, pill boxes, paperweights and many other beautiful and unique Millefiori jewelry pieces that are instantly recognized and valued for their artistic appeal and fine craftsmanship. Enjoy your Murano Glass jewelry creation, knowing that it was carefully handmade by talented Murano Glass artisans in Venice, Italy.
