This cute hand-blown Murano glass penguin looks ready to waddle off with its wide amber-colored wings and cute head turned to the side. Featuring swirls of vivid colors arranged in festooned patterns wrapping its blown glass body, this figurine demonstrates a unique combination of craftsmanship and style that made Murano glass artisans world-famous. Playful, joyful, and adorable, this finely crafted little penguin will become a favorite in your home.
  • Measurements: The penguin measures approximately 2-1/2 inches in height and 2 inches in width.
  • It is crafted in a family glassblowing workshop on Murano island in Venice, Italy and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
  • About this technique: Festooned Glass penguin is part of a special figurines collection. The beautiful garland-like decorative style was adopted in Murano at the end of the 17th century, though it was used on glass as far back as the 2nd millennium AC. To produce the festooned motif Murano glassmakers employ a complicated technique called 'Fenicio' (Phoenician), in which the glassworker wraps the incandescent glass threads with a thin pontil, and then while the object is still hot, he combs the threads with a hooked tool. The result is a remarkable pattern that is classic, eye-catching, and inimitable.
  • Because each item is a unique work of art made by hand, slight variations of colors and patterns are possible.

Workmanship

Lampworking is one of the most recognized Murano Glass techniques, which is used by Venetian master artisans to create a variety of Murano glassware such as sculptures, figurines, jewelry and more under a small flame by manipulating special Murano Glass canes and working with basic instruments to achieve elaborate and artistic designs limited only by the artisan's imagination. Making each figurine one at a time, finely crafting every detail, the Venetian masters demonstrate impressive skill and artistic talent, the signature features of authentic Murano Glass.
