This whimsical hand-blown Murano glass elephant with its trunk curled up features festoons of vivid colors that wrap its black glass body. Stylish and elaborate, this figurine showcases the best that Murano glassmakers have to offer with their unique combination of great skill and unmistakable taste. This delightful elephant will look great with any interior decor and will make every day a little brighter.

The elephant measures 3 1/2 inches in height and 2 1/3 inches in width.

Festooned Glass elephant is a part of Festooned Thread Figurines Collection. The beautiful garland-like decoration was adopted in Murano at the end of the 17th century, though it was used on glass as far back as the 2nd millennium AC. To produce the festooned motif Murano glassmakers employ a complicated technique called 'fenicio' (Phoenician), in which the glassworker wraps the incandescent glass threads with a thin pontil, or "speo", and then while the object is still hot, he combs the threads with a hooked tool, called a "maneretta". The result is a remarkable pattern that is classic, eye-catching and inimitable.

Because each item is a unique work of art made by hand, slight variations of colors and patterns are possible.

The festooned elephant could not be any cuter! Kinda looks like he has pajamas on! Beautiful colors. I purchased TWO to see how different they might be since they are individually made. Each one is unique. Very glad that I have added these cuties to my collection!

Ordered this for a gift for a friend's birthday next month, since she collects elephants. It is so cute, the colors are blended well, and the black is very shiny. She is going to love it.
