Striped glass looks beautiful and unique but how is it made? This was the long-kept secret of Murano Glass artisans, which is now out in the open, yet nowhere else can you find the same glass quality and designs that you see on Murano Island. Striped glass vases are crafted by putting a layer of thinning stretched heated glass on top of a hot glass object, then twisting and turning the object to achieve the intended overall design. Based on the speed of turning and the technique you can change the direction of the stripes and spacing between them making patterns from spirals to parallel lines. The object is then put into the furnace where the bottom and top layers of glass fuse together to form a unique and elegant Murano art glass piece.
