This vintage Murano Glass Fish sculpture is a mid-century Venetian art glass masterpiece crafted in famous Formia studio. Now closed, Formia was a major art glass company on Murano island since 1962, where many prominent Murano Glass artists of the 20th century had a chance to polish their skills and shape their artistic vision. This modernist fish sculpture reflects major art trends of the 20th century, such as abstractionism and minimalism. The simple shape of the fish is offset by the complexity of the color play achieved by the use of colored glass layers created using famous Sommerso technique. Sommerso technique was invented by Antonio Da Ross in the 1930's and was made world-famous in contemporary art glass by Flavio Poli, who was creative director of Seguso Vetri d'Arte. Controlled bubbles throughout, crafted using a complicated glass-making technique called bullicante, lend another touch of sophistication to the design. This fish is a symbolic representation Venice's affiliation with the sea and is a fine gift to any sea lover, Venice fan, or art glass collector.

Larger Murano Glass figures and sculptures are typically made in the ancient factories on Murano island, where there is enough space to turn, twist, and blow the glass, move it into and out of the large furnaces, and cool it down properly. Making the glass mixture with the right color intensity and pattern is only a part of the job. The biggest challenge is shaping the glass just perfectly while keeping it in the correct state in between the bench and the furnace. This requires special skills rarely found outside of Murano Glass artist and artisan community. These Murano Glass sculptures of lovers, abstract art, and animals crafted in well-known Murano factories are top-quality art glass pieces sought after by interior decor specialists and collectors alike.
