Venice with its iconic gondolas sliding down the canals is a city known for romance, beauty, and magical atmosphere. But Venice is also a very festive place, especially around Christmas-time, with symbols of the holiday and good cheer spread throughout the city. The glass artisans of Murano have combined these two aspects of their home in this imaginative Murano Glass figurine of a gondola being directed by none other than Santa Claus himself, having abandoned his customary sleigh for his trip through the beautiful city of Venice. Anyone who enjoys the enchanting spirit of Christmas and the special magic of the winter holidays will appreciate this handcrafted Murano Glass figurine symbolizing Christmas in Venice. This Santa-guided gondola also makes a wonderful Christmas gift to those who appreciate Venetian artistic heritage and fine Murano craftsmanship.
  • Measurements: the gondola measures just under 4-1/2 inches in length and the height is about 3 inches.
  • This fine and detailed gondola with Santa as a gondolier is made entirely by hand in a traditional Murano workshop by a family that has been making Murano Glass for several generations.
  • The sculpture comes well packaged to avoid damage in transit and is accompanied by the certificate of authenticity.
  • Note: the mooring poles vary in color according to the fantasy of the artisan, but they will always feature bright rich colors reflecting the Venetian glassmaking tradition.
  • Because each Murano Glass piece is a unique work of art made by hand, some variations of colors and patterns are possible.

Lampworking technique of glass-making, which dates back to ancient Egypt, was revived by Murano glass artisans around the fourteenth century. This technique is based on heating up a blob of glass under a small flame from a lamp or a torch until it reaches malleable state, then blowing and using simple tools or just hands to create various forms and designs. Lampworking allows the artisan's creativity to blossom, as copper sparkles, various minerals, and pieces of glass cane are fused together in this process to create rich colors and imaginative patterns that are always unique. Murano Glass masters often use lampworking method to create small jewelry, such as pendants, earrings, or rings, as well as keychains, barrettes, pillboxes, and figurines.
