Murano Glass has been world-famous for ages for its exceptional colors, unique beauty, artistry, and fine craftsmanship. These qualities are evident in this beautiful Murano Glass Millefiori Egg handmade in one of the oldest glassworks on Murano Island. The masters whose lineage includes famous glass artisans of the centuries past employ a complex glass-making technique called Millefiori (or "a thousand flowers") to create this Murano Egg that dazzles with gorgeous deep colors and sparkles with 24K gold.

This Murano Glass Egg carries powerful symbolism known to many cultures since antiquity. At different times a symbol of the Universe, creation, wealth, and health, an egg also has religious and spiritual meanings. In Jewish tradition it symbolizes a circle of life. In Christianity it is a metaphor for resurrection, immortality, and of course an important part of Easter celebrations. Thanks to its powerful cultural and spiritual references, this beautiful finely crafted Murano paperweight makes a great symbolic gift that reminds us of the potential of life. This Egg can serve as a decorative piece on your mantle, bookshelf, or coffee table, or as a functional paperweight in your office.

Measurements: The decorative glass paperweight measures just over 3 inches in height and 2 1/4 inches in diameter in its widest part. The diameter of the base is just over 1 inch. It is very well packaged to avoid damage in transit and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Because each Murano paperweight is a unique work of art made by hand, slight variations of colors, patterns, and shapes are possible.

Workmanship

Murano Glass Millefiori, also known as a thousand flowers, is a glass-making technique invented in ancient Egypt, perfected in ancient Rome, then forgotten and reinvented again on Murano island. Dipping a blob of hot malleable glass into pre-cut pieces of Millefiori made from a special millefiori cane, the master creates a design of a thousand flowers on the surface of the glass and then heats the glass again to fully bind the millefiori pieces to the surface. Often 24K gold foil is wrapped around the object and fused into it to create unique sparkly appearance with Millefiori design. The master then sits on the bench and works the hot glass to create the desired shape and design, repeatedly reheating the glass. This is how Murano Glass Millefiori figurines, sculptures, vases, bowls, and many other artistic objects are created by hand in Murano Glass factories.
